Chronic Pain

This website is dedicated to the impact chronic pain has on the human body at all levels: physically, psychologically, emotionally, and spiritually. Its aim is the discussion and spread of systematic structures that have in some way helped those with chronic pain, myself included. Inclusive will be both western medical and eastern non-traditional practices.

Under the umbrella of my own long battle with an immunological-neurological disease called Pseudotumor-Cerebri (also known as Benign Intracranial Hypertension or/and Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension) diagnosed in 1992; and a complex clinical history with other conditions.

Please note that this is one of three sister websites:

Thank you very much for your support and encouragement as we journey a difficult road through chronic pain!

Pseudotumor Cerebri Website: Chronic Pain Introductory Paragraph

The birth of this website is deep-rooted in my condition, Pseudotumor Cerebri, and my long struggle with the signs and symptoms, and failed treatments, of an immunological-neurological dis-ease, and what it means to live with one. My vision here is to generate a platform for open discussion, research/investigation, think tanks, and dispersal of information; a knowledge base and experiential foundation, and to continue an exploration of pain manifested over time, on the path to physical wellness and liberation.

Three websites are linked here, for your convenience: www.pseudotumor.life, about my experience with the medical side of this condition; www.onemomentintime.com, about dealing with the chronic side of physical, psychological, and emotional pain. This website covers and array of subjects, offers suggestions, resources, & links. Lastly, it also serves as a blog for thoughts of a journey through an insidious chronic daily path; and  www.unsusurro.com (same as previous, in its Spanish language version). The aim is to cover all aspects of chronic pain: the modern Asclepian [after Asclepius, first doctor demi-god in Greek mythology*] medical system, as well as Hygeian [after the healing Goddess Hyeia].

Mi Sirena:

Ya no te veo por estos parajes,

ni tenaz, ni deslumbrante.

Moviéndote como una sirena,

cegadora y acongojante.

¡Ven!

Surgery-Failed Shunt

Update on my May VA shunt surgery. It has barely been six months and this new shunt has failed again. My body seems to be in the small group that loves obstructing the end of the tubing not allowing the free flow of intracranial fluid.

It is really difficult to hear the news yet again. But all I can do is look for new alternatives and keep on moving forward.

Lumbar Puncture Procedure, December 2023

After yet another Lumbar Puncture procedure for IIH, results show that the VA shunt placed during the May surgery is not functioning correctly and further procedures are required. These news have been difficult to take. Please join me in a discussion of the present situation.

The Return

After a hiatus, I have decided to share with you not only the joy of ‘getting better’ but also the bumps on the road and the fall backs. Here I am again to give anecdotes and stories that may make you laugh, think, or perhaps even shed a tear. As always, many hugs to all of you!

IIH: Cough

My coughing attacks continue and getting worse. This saga is becoming a real issue and one that was completely unexpected and leaving specialists speechless. I am truly being tested physically and mentally. An interesting phase in my life and yet another outcome of a VA shunt that was completely surprising to me.

IIH: Feeling Better!!

After a difficult VA shunt surgery, recovery has been arduous. With an accidental nicked nerve in my throat during the operation I am having a hard time speaking and swallowing. Coughing has been developing which is causing quite a struggle. But all and all I am so happy to say that I see a light at the end of the tunnel. I am still living with this insidious condition: IIH, but better than before!

Una Respiración

Hoy estoy pidiendo 1 respiración dedicada a mi dolor crónico diario. Se practica en muchas tradiciones, en este caso se atribuye al Budismo. Algunos llaman a esta práctica Tonglen. ¡Siempre agradecida!

One Breath

The Buddhist practice of Tonglen has been long practiced for the aid of suffering for one person and for the world. Here I ask for one breath to help me in my continued suffering. Thank you!
